\nAlessandro Cassin<\/a>\r\n\t \t\t
Alessandro Cassin is the director of Centro Primo Levi\u2019s online magazine, Printed Matter<\/em> and CPL Editions which published over 10 books since its debut in 2015. Coming from a tradition of publishing \u2014his father published the first edition of If This Is A Man<\/em> in English\u2014Cassin began working in experimental theater and was awarded the Premio Ruggero Rimini 1989 for Il Presidente Schreber<\/em>. He has been a cultural reporter for publications including L\u2019Espresso<\/em> and Diario<\/em>. He is a contributor of The Brooklyn Rail<\/em>. His book Whispers: Ulay on Ulay<\/em> co-authored with Maria Rus Bojan received the 2015 AICA Netherlands Award.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Donald J. Trump\u2019s election, inauguration, first appointments, and presidential decrees, have caused extreme disquiet to those who foresee the country drifting toward authoritarianism and a systematic undermining of the democratic process.<\/p>\n

The present political situation  \u2014 polarizing and still hard to gauge in its radical thrust\u2014 calls for new and creative modalities of opposition and dissent.<\/p>\n

Many have marched, blogged, protested through social media, written to their representatives in congress. Yet on both an individual and collective level, one finds unchanneled frustration and impotence.<\/p>\n

Among the more quiet yet resonant actions, we would like to invite you to join an initiative promoted by the artist, Morgan O\u2019Hara<\/a> who on Inauguration Day invited like minded citizens to join her in the Rose Room of the New York Public Library, to spend the day copying by hand the US Constitution.<\/p>\n

The images convey the quiet intensity and personal involvement each participant had with the text of the Constitution. Walter Benjamin\u2019s reflection on the virtue of copying a text illuminates the scope of the project.<\/p>\n

The action will be repeated on Saturday, February 11th<\/sup> from noon until 6pm.<\/p>\n

“The power of a country road when one is walking along it is different from the power it has when one is flying over it by airplane. In the same way, the power of a text when it is read is different from the power it has when it is copied out. The airplane passenger sees only how the road pushes through the landscape, how it unfolds according to the same laws as the terrain surrounding it.
