Description

In The Song of the Sea, Enrico Fink guides us through the Great Synagogue of Florence while mapping out the history and repertoire of the Sephardic liturgy in Italy. Exploring the origins and variations of the liturgical poem Shirat Hayam (Song of the Sea), Fink reflects on the importance of religious music throughout the Sephardic world. The book includes historical sections by musicologists Edwin Seroussi and Francesco Spagnolo, a section on cantillation techniques, facsimiles of the frontispiece to 18th century musical scores, and Hebrew piyyutim (liturgical poems) with Italian and English translations.
