Americordo. The Italian Jewish Exiles in America
$9.00 – $12.00
Description
Pontecorboli’s book is a long overdue account of a lesser-known chapter of Italy’s anti-Jewish persecution: the exile of Italian Jews to America. Fleeing Fascist persecution in the 1930s and 1940s, roughly two thousand Italian Jews arrived in the U.S., where they continued their work in fields ranging from science and medicine to banking, manufacturing, and the arts. Pontecorboli traces their stories—their escape routes, struggles for visas, and first steps in a new world.
